Affordable and functional all at once. This is how we see this Prepac Nightstand. Imagine, you’ll get three storages in a small piece like this. The bonus part is, it’s taller than your usual nightstand. But, of course, there are still a lot of things we need to know about this side table. So, keep reading while we scrutinize it piece by piece.
They used two kinds of wood to construct this Sonoma Drawer. One is the laminate composite wood, and the other one is pine wood.
So, where can we see these woods in this small bedside table?
This laminate composite wood is all over this piece—top, side, and front. We like how smooth everything is.
The wood they used doesn’t feel cheap. It even looks solid and could stand for a long time. It might be a composite wood, but the manufacturer made sure they used the solid one, so you’ll get the service you paid for.
The only complaint we have with the wood is, it got damaged during the delivery. Well, it’s the usual complaint of consumers, receiving a damaged wood before it could even reach their doorstep. Don’t worry, if you’ll receive a damage one, Amazon and Prepac will replace your item immediately. By the way, it’s one of the characteristics of this wood, so you need to give extra care while assembling this one to avoid the unfavorable outcome.
How about the backer? Well, they used MDF to seal its back. Still not bad for support, though. The beauty with this MDF is, it’s easier to drill a hole. What’s the hole for? It doesn’t have pre-drilled holes which you could use for charging your gadgets. Drilling the backer for your charger’s cord will be useful for you, right?
Now, where’s the pine wood on this piece?
They used the pine wood as the wall of the drawers, which means it’s also the part where you will install the metal glides.
It’s great they used pine wood as part of this collection. But maybe it’s better if they used it for the whole piece. Well, we understand that they don’t want to mark their products with a higher price, that’s why they stick with the laminate composite wood.
Anyway, all-in-all, we’re happy with the woods they used. It looks solid after assembly.
There’s nothing extraordinary with the design. But we like the curved top edges and arched base panel it carries on its body. They give character to this piece. But aside from that, there’s nothing more.
What makes it different from other low-priced nightstands?
It has a lot of storage. There is one open shelf and two deep drawers underneath it. It’s a small piece of furniture with ample amount of storage—impressive, isn’t it?
Another thing we like about this Prepac Collection is, it’s available in different styles, and each style has its own set of colors.
Let’s check this collection.
- Sonoma: Black, Warm Cherry, and Washed Black
- Monterey: Cherry and White
- Salt Spring: Drifted Grey
- Fremont: Espresso
Prepac used standard-sized round, brushed nickel knobs. It looks great on this Prepac Sonoma Tall 2-Drawer Nightstand.
But if you want to upgrade the looks of this piece by replacing the knobs, you won’t have a problem with that because the screws are standard-sized, too. It’s easy to find a matching one.
Just a hint, knobs on each Prapac Collection is different. So maybe you might want to check the whole collection and choose the one for you based on the knobs’ design.
Metal Glides and Slides
Since there are two drawers underneath its cubby, you want to check how the glides work, right? Well, it has safety stops so it won’t pop out to this nightstand whenever you pull it. Also, it’s easy to pull and push. Both the glides and slides run smoothly. It doesn’t stick-up in the middle, which means no headache for you while using it.
The thing about the metal glides that you need to know is, it’s a bit confusing to install. But don’t worry because Prepac prepared a video for you. Please click the below link, so you could watch the video instruction.

We’ve already talked about the things you need to know about this nightstand, so maybe it’s time for us to see how big or small this bedside furniture is.
The overall dimension is 23.25” W x 16” D x 28” H.
It’s wider and taller than we expected. It’s almost 2 feet wide, and we just smiled when we first saw it. We didn’t expect we will have a wide nightstand like this. Also, we so much love the height. It’s even taller than our mattress.
With its height, it’s easier to reach something while you’re lying in your bed, right?
How about the inner dimension?
The open shelf measures 18.5” W x 13.75 “D x 4.25” H. It has a nice height for placing your books and gadgets. Well, we’ve already mentioned that this cubby doesn’t have a hole for your charger’s cord, is that okay with you? If not, you could drill the backer with your own electric drill to get the hole you need for charging your phone.
As for the drawer, the dimension is 16.5” W x 12.5” D x 5” H. It’s spacious, right? The depth might be short, but what could you expect from it? It’s only a nightstand and not a huge storage drawer.
Assembly and Warranty
They packed this Prepac Sonoma Tall 2-Drawer Nightstand in one box. It’s not a heavy package, though. It only weighs around 45 to 50 pounds.
We’re not happy with the assembly. Why? Because the woods don’t have proper labeling. If you’re not a handyman, it will be difficult for you to figure out which part needs to connect to this part. So, if you’re not sure if you have the correct wood in your hand, better think twice before screwing it because you have to do it right for the first time. Remember, this is composite wood, and assembling and disassembling it might damage its particles.
Good thing this is only small furniture with few parts, so it won’t eat up so much of your time. And assembly will be less of a challenge for you, yet still challenging because of the missing label.
It might not please us with the assembly, but we’re glad that Prepac offers a 5-year limited warranty for this nightstand. Aside from that, it’s also easy to reach out to their customer service which is a plus for us. It’s very important for us to deal with companies whom we could contact whenever we need help or replacement for the defective parts.
