Need a blackout curtain but doesn’t want to spend that much? Then NICETOWN Blackout Drapery Curtain Panels might be the answer to your needs. It’s both a reliable and inexpensive blackout curtain.
Well, there are still a lot of things to consider before buying this one, and we’ll help you determine if it’s worth your money or not.
Even though it’s not as expensive as other blackout drapes out there, it’s still important that we know its capacity. In that case, we won’t get disappointed once we received our orders, right?
First, what are its promises? We’ve seen a lot of drapes out there that says a lot of promising features, and this one has it, too. Let’s list them out.
- Blackout up to 90%
- Protects Privacy
- Fade Resistant
- Thermal Insulated
- Reduce Noise
- Wrinkle Free
Now, the next thing we need to do is to prove this list right or falsify it, whichever is necessary so you’ll have a better judgment before buying this piece.
Can it block the lights up to 90%?
Well, at least the manufacturer is honest with their curtain’s ability to block the lights from coming in in our windows or porch doors. It won’t give us false hope that it could 100% block the lights, right? And 90% is not bad.
So, the answer to this question is yes. Yes, it could block the lights up to 90%. But! There’s a “but” to this answer. It depends on the color you’ll choose. So, this means, not all colors will give you a blackout of 90%.
Dark colors have better ability in darkening the rooms, while the light-colored ones are not. Even though dark and light-colored curtains are of the same thickness and weight, the ability to darken the room isn’t the same. It looks like the reflection on the light-colored panels passes through easily, unlike in the dark panels.
Does this answer upset you or disappoint you?
To be honest, it disappoints us. Why? Because if we want almost 100% blackout during the daytime in our room, we need to choose dark-colored ones, right? This doesn’t give us the chance to choose the color we need and want for our room. Instead, it’s us who needs to adjust the color for our windows.
But, if you don’t have any problem with choosing the dark panels since your purpose is to darken your room, this is an effective blackout curtain. It’s true to its promise to keep your room dark even in the daytime.
Is it good at protecting your privacy?
We all care about our privacy, right? We don’t want anyone to see the inside of our house or room during the daytime or even in the nighttime when our lights are all open. So, let’s check if these NICETOWN Blackout Drapery Curtain Panels are true to its words about privacy protection.
What we like about the fabric used is, it’s thick. This characteristic reduces the chance of the people outside to see our silhouette from our windows or porch. How? Well, both the front and back of this blackout curtain are of the same composition. What you see in front will also be seen at its back. So, if you couldn’t see anything while inside, no one will also see anything from the outside.
This curtain does its job well in blocking people from seeing our home through our windows, so thumbs up for that.
Fade-resistant and wrinkle-free, is this true?
When we first read the wrinkle-free feature on this curtain, our eyes sparkled immediately. Why? Because it gives us the idea that we don’t need to iron it after washing. Ironing is an added task, right? So, if it doesn’t get wrinkled, then we could eliminate the ironing part on this one.
But, is it true that it’s wrinkle-free? Yes, it’s true. No major crease on its fabric after wash. The thing is, if you look closely, it’s not as flat or smooth as the ones that underwent ironing. By the way, the crease is barely noticeable.
Now, aside from being a wrinkle-free curtain, it also has a fade-resistant feature. It’s great that it has this feature because it makes its life span longer than you expected.
We washed it with the manufacturer’s instruction, and it surprised us it did not fade. We have both light and dark-colored panels, so we both see the effect of detergents on these two sets. The two gave the same result. No fading of colors. The fabrics are also clean from lint.
Will it reduce noise and heat from coming-in in your windows and porch doors?
The thing about the noise reduction feature is, you can still hear your neighborhood’s noise. But, it’s not as loud as when these curtain panels are not hanged yet. So, this answers your question about noise reduction, right? The sounds are still there, but it’s lesser, and it’s more of buzzes rather than full noise, which is great. This also means you’ll have a more peaceful stay in your home.
Now, about the heat reduction feature, it pretty works well, too. The temperature after we hang the curtain panels in our windows dropped a little. Well, we’re not saying the room becomes colder. It’s more of the hot temperature outside are not passing through our windows because these curtains are blocking them from coming in, which only means the air inside our room is not as hot as the outside temperature.

We have a piece of advice for you. For you to be able to achieve the 90% blackout for your room, the size of the curtain should be a lot larger than the size of your windows or porch door. This will prevent the outside light from leaking to its sides.
You can do your experiment on how high you should place your curtain rod. We have ours six inches above the window’s top, and the light is still leaking on that part.
We almost forget the grommets. But yes, grommets are one of the most important parts of this NICETOWN Blackout Curtain. It has a 1.6-inch diameter.
Unfortunately, the grommets on this curtain are not noise-free. You would hear it scratching your metal rod whenever it’s sliding on it. But don’t worry because the sound is not that annoying and not that loud. Meaning the sound is still tolerable.
Fabric and Hem
They used polyester fabric with a silky soft touch, and because of how nice the fabric is, it deserves neat stitches, right?
The quality of its stitches is exemplary. Every side is neatly done. The hem is proportion to each other and doesn’t have an uneven fold. By the way, they folded the hem around 1/3 or ¼ of an inch. Hope this gives you an idea about the thickness of the fold.
