Based on the looks of this Futon Bed, it’s worth reviewing every angle. Also, it’s so popular in Amazon, and this gives us the urge to find out why.

A Bed or a Couch?

So, how do you see this Futon?

Do you see a couch or a bed?

It depends on what you need at the moment because it could give you both. But not at the same time or maybe at the same time? Let’s check it out.

You could actually do both at the same time in just a few movements. Surprising, isn’t it?

How does it happen? It’s because it has a split backrest. Which only means you could put down the other side to create a bed and keep the other side as a backrest for a sitting position.

That only proves how functional this thing is for a small spaced apartment, right? Best for dorms, maybe?

How to transform this Futon Bed from couch to bed?

There’s no complicated step for this. You only need to move the backrest forward to loosen the lock and then put it down for a 180-degree position (transforming it to bed). Easy as that.

On the other hand, when transforming it to a couch, all you have to do is move the backrest forward again. Wait for the click sound which will be your signal you’ve locked the backrest for sitting purposes.

Upon several testing of the lock feature on the backrest, we never experienced any problem. It holds tight, and it doesn’t feel like it will go down unexpectedly.

How huge is it?

How huge? Well, it’s more of how much space does it occupy in your place?

There are two dimensions for this Couch Bed.

First, the sleeping dimension is 71″ L x 43″ W x 16” H. By the dimension it shows, it looks like you’re almost getting a full-sized bed for this one. Still several inches short, though, but look at how long and wide it is. You could even use this as your guest bed, that is, if you don’t have a mattress available for them, right?

So, do you think the sleeping dimension will work in your living room?

Second, sitting dimension is 71” L x 34” W x 32” H. The seat is wide for a sofa which will make you think it’s more for lounging than just for sitting even when the backrest is up.

For other dimensions, please see below:

  • Seat front to back (Seating Position): 23.5 inches
  • Backrest from top seat: 19.5 inches

We like the mid-century modern design this DHP Emily Futon Couch Bed possesses. It could even transform a plain looking living room or office room sophisticated with its design. The tufted pattern also adds character with this whole thing.

Imagine if you’ll only see a futon without a tuft? Will it look the same? No, it will look dull and plain without the tuft on it. So, we’re happy that they put it on the seat and on its backrest.

How about the chrome legs? Do you think it matches the design, and the fabric used?

It matches the look. We like the shiny effect of the chrome because it gives the notion it’s expensive even though it’s below $200.00, right?

Also, putting six legs in a Futon Couch boosts not only the design, but it also provides security to us when we lounge on it. Well, to give you more idea about the security we are talking about, the weight capacity is 600 pounds. That’s pretty impressive—and sturdy. This only means it could accommodate at least two persons when using it as a bed.

Now, it’s time for us to scrutinize the fabric used for this Couch Bed.

What we have here is the linen version.

Well, there are three versions in the market. You can either choose between the linen, leather, and velvet.

As for the linen, it has a rough texture—a natural character of the linen fabric. Good thing it feels fresh all time and doesn’t get hot even if there’s a sudden change of temperature around the room. Well, if the fabric is rough, and gets hot at the same time, that will be a disaster, right? We won’t even purchase it.

We’re not saying that the texture is uncomfortable, but we just don’t enjoy rolling on a rough-textured fabric while we sleep.

If you want maximum comfort while you sleep on this Futon Bed, you can use a bed sheet to cover the texture of the linen. This will give you a better lounging experience.

You might think of trying the faux leather fabric after we mentioned that the linen is rough. Well, you could have it, but the thing is, the leather used isn’t that premium. It chips out after some time, and we don’t want you to experience that.

Pads or Foams

There are no enough pads both on seat and backrest. It’s thin for a couch and a bed. It disappoints us a bit because we are expecting more. We know you are, too.

Aside from the thin padding you’ll find on this Futon Bed, you’ll also get a stiff experience. Whichever part of this bed you roll in when you lay on it, it feels stiff. This won’t give you a great experience if you’re used to the plush mattress.

It lacks on pads, to be honest. But since we love the style and how it saves space, we find a remedy for it. We put a memory foam topper, so we could enjoy its mere purpose, and to provide bed even in small spaces.

Delivery and Assembly

It’s packed in one box. You might wonder where are the parts when you open the box. Well, there’s a compartment at the back, and they zipped everything inside.

By the way, it’s not that heavy, but still heavy. We know, it’s vague. So, let’s give you the number. It’s 72.5 pounds.

Aside from the parts, they also included instruction on how to assemble it. No need to fret though because the only thing you need to do is screw the six chrome legs on its position. After that, it’s good for use.
